Panopticon, written, directed and designed by Dion Mucciacito is a surreal dance / theatre / film immersive experience, that premiered at the Juilliard School’s Willson Theatre in March 2022. Based off of Plato’s Allegory of the Cave, Panopticon places the audience in an immersive psychedelic parade of visions from primordial nature to ecological apocalypse accompanied by dance ritual and hypnotic music. The visual language of the film component was inspired by Mr. Mucciacito’s surreal, abstract multi media paintings as well as recurring night terrors Mucciacito experienced before and after his mother died of brain cancer in 1986.
